Business Valuation Credentials

 

Accredited In Business Valuation (ABV)

 
The Accredited in Business Valuation credential is issued by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). The requirements to become an ABV are:

1) Be a Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
2) Perform at least 10 business valuations
3) Pass a written exam, or meet certain educational and experience requirements

Maintaining the ABV credential requires continuing education, and performing at least 5 valuations every 3 year period.

Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA) 


The Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA) is granted by the National Association of CVAs (NACVA). The requirements to become a CVA are:

 1) Be a Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
 2) Take certain business valuation courses
 3) Pass a written exam

Maintaining the CVA designation requires continuing education and a quality review every 3 year period. The NACVA also grants other designations including an Accredited Valuation Analyst (AVA) designation.

There are a number of organizations that grant business valuation designations. No one organization or designation is inherently better than another. We believe that a combination of valuation experience and credentials along with a background in business and finance is the best indicator of competence.

Accredited Senior Appraiser - Business Valuation (ASA-BV)


 
The Accredited Senior Appraiser in Business Valuation (ASA-BV) and Accredited Member (AM) designation is granted by the American Society of Appraisers (ASA). The requirements to become an ASA include:

1) College degree
 2) Business valuation experience
 3) Take specific valuation and ethics courses
 4) Pass a written exam

Maintaining the ASA requires continuing education and valuation experience.

Certified Business Appraiser (CBA)


The Certified Business Appraiser (CBA) and other valuation designations are granted by the Institue of Business Appraisers (IBA). The requirements to become a CBA include:

1) College degree
 2) Business valuation experience
 3) Pass a written exam
